Bomb alert at Eiffel Tower just a hoax

A bomb threat at Eiffel Tower in Paris, determined the french authorities to inspect the tower and the surroundings and evacuate about 2000 people from Champ de Mars park. Police used sniffer dogs to check every stage of the landmark but nothing suspicios was found, therefore the threat appeared to have been just a hoax. The french officials said that a phone bomb threat was reported at 8.20 p.m (local time) and was regarded as a routine happening; the location was inspected to confirm if the threat was real or not. Also the metro station St. Michel was evacuated but it was re-opened after 30 minutes. About 100 camera - 1/3 are infrared for night surveillance - are mounted on the Eiffel monument which is fitted also with a network of sprinklers and 150 fire extinguishers. Designed to last just 20 years, the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889, it weighs 10100 tons and its structure contains 2.5 million rivets.
