Dutch ferry capsizes in Amsterdam-Rijn canal after collision

The collision between a small passenger ferry and a freight ship made the first one sink in the waters of Amsterdam-Rijn canal on Friday. The small vessel which was used to transport people and bikes across the Rijn canal was hit in the Nieuwer Ter Aa-Breukelen area, north of Utrecht, a Dutch police official said. Rescue operation involving a police helicopter equipped with sonar and divers was deployed in search for possible victims. The body of a man has been found several hours after the accident which took place at about 7 a.m in Rhine's waters. The corpse is believed to be of the ferry's skipper and the authorities suppose that he was the only person on the ferry at the moment of impact with the German cargo ship.
